About this Week-Long Program:
Free To Move and Play, owned by physical therapist Judy Karrenbrock, and Grace Reins Equine Therapy, founded and led by equine therapist Erin Cain, are excited to announce a unique collaboration that promises to transform the lives of families seeking intensive therapy care. This week-long event in the stunning setting of Telluride, CO, will combine the expertise of both professionals, offering participants a holistic approach to healing and growth. Families will experience an unparalleled blend of physical and equine therapy, creating memories and progress that will last a lifetime.
How will Physical Therapy & Equine Therapy Work Together?
Part 1 - Physical Therapy Session with Judy:
Each day, Judy will provide a one-hour physical therapy session mainly focused using DMI exercises (plus other treatment strategies) to develop gross motor skills. With Intermediate Level A certification in DMI and 23 years of experience in pediatrics and early intervention, Judy tailors exercises to fit each child’s unique height, weight, and functional level. Her expertise will ensure meaningful progress and prepare each child for the enriching equine experience that follows each PT session.
Part 2 - Equine-Assisted Therapy Session with Erin:
Adjacent to your Physical Therapy session, your child will then immerse in an hour of Individual Equine Therapy with Erin Cain, a CTRI-certified therapeutic riding instructor and Equine Specialist in Mental Health & Learning. In this unique experience, a horse serves as a non-judgmental partner, reflecting your child's emotions and facilitating personal insights. This session may incorporate tactile, sensory, and positioning elements—such as lying, sitting, or gentle riding—tailored to each child's participation level. This approach not only enhances emotional healing and self-awareness but also supports physical therapy goals related to postural control and movement patterns.
